work and study

Hi
am planning on comming over to estonia to do an MBA and possibly settle down and work for a while after my programme, I also have a Law degree

My question is, how possible is it to get a job in estonia, and can i work permanently after my MBA programme,

What is the average salary in estonia, and are Estonian hostile to non caucasian, seeing that am black African

There are jobs but they aren't the easiest to find. I found it tough enough to get a job as a English and French language teacher, something I thought would be pretty easy seeing as I am a fluent speaker of English and Estonian graduates of French are few and far between. I gues sit all depends on the profession and industry.

Sorry that I don't know much about getting a job in the legal field.

The salary levels in Estonia are pretty low (€230/month was minimum wage in 2007) and the cost of living compared to the salary is huge, so you will likely have a lower standard of living than at home unless you land a very good job. Average gross wages were €600 with a 22% income tax. This year income tax is 21%. [€1 = 15.6466 EEK]

Most people buy their apartments through the bank with a mortgage as renting is quite expensive. A very modest one bedroom apartment will cost you around €300 a month not including water or energy charges.

In general Estonians, being Nordic, are fairly cold anyway to strangers, especially ones who aren't Estonian. I guess it will even be harder for you becuase of your skin colour. However, after a time when people get to know you, and you learn a little bit about the culture and language they will be more friendly and open.

Of course that just goes for people you meet on a regular basis and doesn't take into account the people you randomly meet in the shops or on the street. Don't take the bluntness and the directness of Estonians personally. They are in general very nice at heart.

Bear in mind that a lot of the young people are moving overseas to work so a certain few people might react negatively to you coming to Estonia to work and occupying a position an Estonian might have taken.

Against all that I am loving living and working in Estonia. It's a real nice place and I am glad that I am here. Smile

OK... so I'm leaving my high heeled shoes at home.
I'm kinda shocked cause that looks a lot like me... except for I wear a long black coat. So... wearing a miniskirt and high heels would be a no-can-do if I don't want to be mistaken for being Russian?

*gets her sneakers out of the closet*. Well, or I may just wear a longer skirt while I'm there.
