|
|
Well, I don't know when winter is going to arrive this year, but winter tires are mandatory in Estonia from December 1st to March 1st.
Studded tires are by far the most popular, but I wouldn't recommend them if you don't drive outside of Tallinn. You can get a good non-studded winter tire for the city. I do a lot of winter driving on the back roads of rural southern Estonia where we have a country house, so studded tires make sense for me.
There are many tire stores around from big chains to independent stores.
I bought my winter tires this year in Tartu at a store called Hinkus, so I'll plug them for the good customer service and great prices. I've had bad service in Tallinn at the Pärnu mnt location of the large tire chain Oscarrehvid, so I can't recommend them.
Sava brand tires might not be a tire brand many are familiar with, but they are owned by Goodyear and I've been happy with mine and wouldn't hesitate to suggest them.
Don't try to get away without winter tires as the police do set-up occasional checkpoints and randomly pull cars over to see if you comply. _________________ Estonia Forum: www.estoniaforum.org

Just a reminder.
If you're running winter studded tires, you need to get them off the car before May 1st.
The police will likely set up checkpoints after May 1st to ensure compliance. _________________ Estonia Forum: www.estoniaforum.org
