You're quite right. I've read Germany and France have both put out warnings to their citizens about the risks. I just recently read this article:
Cell Phones More Dangerous Than Cigarettes
http://www.newsmax.com/health/cell_phones_cigarettes/2008/04/01/84562.html
While I try not to be overly paranoid about it, my wife and I both try to only use our cell phones when necessary. Since we don't have active social lives or need to use them for business, we can get away with talking on our mobiles very little. I use mine maybe once a week, if that, just for a short call to my wife if I'm on the road or something.

A concerned reader of the Estonia Forum sent me some extra information regarding cell phone use and radiation. I haven't had time to look all this up, but it sounds reasonable.
The quote is edited for clarity in English:
| Quote: |
| If you use a cell phone in moving vehicles like cars, trains or buses it radiates 1000 times more than outside a vehicle and the radiation is staying inside jumping around and signals are continuing to come in through the windows as well. So even if you aren't talking on the phone, you should turn it off completely whenever you are in a moving vehicle. |
Just more food for thought regarding cell phone use and your health.

More info regarding the French Ministry of Health's warning to French citizens.
France Issues Cell Phone Warning in Face of Possible Cancer Risk
http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/2308
In issuing its cell phone warning, the French ministry said in a statement that “as the hypothesis of a risk cannot be entirely excluded, precaution is justified.” It recommended using mobile phones in moderation, especially among children, and gave advice on how users could reduce their exposure to any possible risk. “One should use a mobile phone with good judgment, avoid calling when reception is poor, or during high-speed travel, and finally, keep the telephone away from sensitive areas of the body by using a hands-free kit,” the ministry said. _________________ "As much as I converse with sages and heroes, they have very little of my love and admiration. Well, it could be that in fifty years, the risks will be known and it will be like our grandparents who thought the sun was harmless and never used sunblock. I would feel sort of dumb then.
If one is healthy and has been over the long term, one's body should be able to destroy the little mutations and miscodings that are always happening for a million different reasons.
And cell phone radiation isn't powerful enough to penetrate very deep (bone marrow etc).
Still, I would not allow any child under 2 to talk and restrict use almost to zero for under school age.
And help myself to an extra cup of green tea.
