I have an obsession with Estonia and it's people. I love the history and culture. I have some interesting old insights and photos on my website. If you'd like to look, I'll post them below:

Here is an interesting article that appeared in the National Geographic way back in 1939. This was a very important time in Estonians history:

Be aware that those pages lead into a Russia photo page. I felt that in order to get the complete picture, I had to visit that country. Although the photos are "touristy", the actual places I visited in Russia were well off the beaten path. I talked to a lot of everyday Russians, and although they "seemed" nice enough, I couldnt shake the feeling of a totally different society and mindset. This made me appreciate Estonia all that much more.

This page is the first that I put-up 5 years or so ago. It's a little touristy of course, but this was what the listeners of my old radio show expected to see. Please note that I may have taken some liberties with my descriptions just to make it easier to understand. I also learned a lot more during my next subsequent trips:

One of my first pages was very light hearted, because everyone I talked to wanted to know "where the hell is Estonia"? You must remember that when we grew up in school, there was just Russia. When the wall fell, all of these little countries suddenly emerged that we'd never heard of. It's a well known fact that Americans are lax when it comes to European history. But at the time, it seemed we had out plate full just trying to learn enough to get a feel for for American and "some" world history. Anyway, I have since spent thousands of hours trying to make up for at least some of that. So... this (again) was one of my first pages:

I was in Estonia in 2006 and again last Sept. (Last time I'll do that! Rained a LOT!) I find that late May-June is the best time for me.

Come on, be a sport, come in winter!

This winter has been really mild actually. Was like a chilly Spring day today, only chilly because it was windy. Other than that it was blue sky and sunshine. Drove over to A. Le Coq and took the little one for a ride in the pram around the stadium, which is also the unofficial baby carriage pushing center in Tallinn. Very Happy

Winter is my favorite time of the year in Tallinn. I like the way the snow covers up all the litter everywhere. Razz

Hello there again! Can't blame you for falling in love with Estonia if you're into History! It certainly has an extremely interesting and intriguingly turbulent history! What's more the people are said to be really friendly.
I like your pages, makes me feel like such a nOOb for not ever having been there once!
